Time to Change That Coil

Time to Change That Coil

Most people who are new to vaping wonder how often they should change their coil. The truth is that how often one should change their coil is determined by a wide variety of factors. Everything from your e-liquid mix to your vaping device impacts the lifespan of your coil. Fortunately, there are many simple ways to figure out when it's time to switch out that old coil for a new one.

Factors That Determine How Often You Should Change That Coil:

How Frequently You Vape

It should go without saying that the more frequently you vape, the more frequently your coil will need to be replaced. If you're a heavy vaper, you may find that you go through one coil each week. Lighter vapers can often use one coil for four weeks before it's time to switch.

Your E-Juice

Typically speaking, e-juices that have a base of more than 50% vegetable glycerin (VG) will burn out your coil more quickly. Because of the viscosity of VG, these liquids are more likely to create a layer of gunk on your coil, causing the wick to lose its effectiveness.

Your Device

If you use a device that hits at a higher wattage level such as a MOD, you'll find yourself going through coils more quickly. High wattage levels heat the coils to higher temperatures, causing the coils to last for a shorter period.

Signs That It's Time to Change Your Coil:

Poor Flavor

One of the most obvious signs of a dying coil is an unpleasant flavor when you take a hit. Typically, a dying coil will cause your vape juice to taste burnt and harsh. You'll also find that the flavor becomes muddy as your coil begins to die.

Poor Vapor Production

If you're struggling to blow clouds even though your device is set at a high wattage, your coil is probably on its way out. A dying coil won't be able to heat your e-juice properly, causing poor vapor production.

Gurgling Noises

If you hear gurgling noises when you inhale, your coil is most likely on its last legs. This gurgling sound means that the e-liquid isn't getting heated evenly. Many times, the gurgling noises are accompanied by spit back.

Juice Leaks

If your tank is secure but your juice is leaking down its sides, you probably need a new coil. A wick that is no longer effective won't be able to absorb your vape juice properly, causing excess liquid to leak and run down your device. This particularly messy issue is often a clear sign that your coil needs to be replaced.

By following this guide, you'll know exactly when it is time to switch out your coil.
