Over-Steeping Your E-Liquid Bounds

Over-Steeping Your E-Liquid Bounds

What Steeping E-liquid Means

One may ask - what exactly is steeping while vaping e-liquid? Well, I'm here to give you a brief description of what steeping is. Steeping your e-liquid is a way of maturing the e-liquid to remove the strong bottled tastes and alcohol. Steeping mixes the VG/PG base, flavorings, and nicotine. It then oxidizes the juice to remove the alcohol. The process of oxidation, while removing the alcohol, also darkens the color of the liquid.

When you steep your e-liquid, it can help preserve the flavor. Steeping the liquid will rid the bad parts of the liquid like the alcohol taste and the nasty taste that the bottle gives it.

Can E-liquid Be Over Steeped?

So, the question now is - can you over steep e-liquid? Most of the time things only get better with age, but some things will get worse. So, this can be a tricky question. It really all depends on how it is made. In fact, some e-liquids have already been steeped in the process of making it. Some juices will age perfectly fine, while others lose their flavor and/or get funky or sticky with age. Some juices may even turn black with age, and in turn, taste horrific!

Truth be told, in most cases, the longer you let something steep - the better it will be. If you have ever made sauce, then you will know exactly where I am coming from when I say that. The e-liquid you purchase will be during steeping already due to the time it has to sit after it is made and when it is being transported to different stores, plus the time it has been sitting on the stores shelves.

The contents of the e-liquid, such as very small trace additives like alcohol, usually won’t affect the steeping process. However, the alcohol contained in some makers juices will evaporate during the steeping process. The alcohol will usually give the juice more of a harsh taste to it, so if you like the harshness then I wouldn’t recommend steeping select juices including alcohol in the recipe.

Steeping will make the juice have a stronger, but not harsh, and more flavorful taste and smell to it. By steeping your e-liquid, it can produce an improved throat hit. A throat hit is the sensation in the throat caused by nicotine as it is inhaled. Certain e-liquids may even produce more clouds than they did before the e-liquid was steeped.

I wouldn’t recommend steeping most e-liquids for more than 4 months. It is best to get a small bottle to transport your favorite juice into and steep the small bottle of e-liquid for however long you prefer to see what type of effect it has on the juice. Some juices will be perfectly fine steeping for up to a few years, while others will go bad after steeping for more than 3 to 4 months. It can go either terrific or horrific, it depends on the e-liquid. Again, I would not recommend steeping it over 4 months’ time, but just judge the process by how the liquid is reacting to steeping.

Steeping usually has a great effect on the e-liquid. It will take away the harshness, the alcohol will evaporate, the juice will have a better flavor and it can produce better clouds while vaping. This process is only for patient individuals since steeping won’t happen overnight. It will take a bit of time, but the end results are very well worth the time you allowed it to steep!
