Learn How to Charge Your Vaping Device & Overcharging Dangers
If you are a vaper, you should know that typically electronic cigarette or MOD batteries are powered by lithium-ion batteries. Over charging these lithium batteries can become extremely dangerous for vapors. When vaping, the battery is what causes the heating element, the coils, to be able to turn e-liquid in to vapor. No matter how old or new your device may be, a battery is involved either way. This article will educate you on how to keep your e-cigs and MODs charged correctly.
You may have seen recent news stories in which vaping device were exploding while in use. It is important to know that these explosions are caused by overcharging the device! When your battery is uncharged, you won't be able to use it as much as you could if it was fully charged. When your battery is overcharged, your device then over heats, which is dangerous. If the battery overheats, it could soon explode. Stressing a battery never has a good outcome. Many vapers refer to the “balloon effect” when charging their devices. When you over fill a balloon with air, it will eventually pop/burst. This is the same effect overcharging a lithium battery has on your device!
It doesn't matter if you're charging a vaping device, car, computer, cell phone, iPod, etc. You see, stressing or overcharging your battery won't ever have a positive outcome. If you overcharge your battery, you will notice that your device will die faster. Batteries can only be overcharged so many times. After a while, the lifespan of the battery begins to shorten significantly. Overcharging the battery damages its capacity. After a while of overcharging the battery, you will continue to lose charge quickly. Eventually you will need to purchase a new battery, and in a few cases a new device (the stress of the device working harder than it should), which can be expensive.
If this isn't enough, overcharging you battery can have even more negative effects. Exploding devices aren't the only physical impact that can happen from overcharging. If a device is overcharged frequently, your battery is bound to crack. Again, overcharging causes tons of stress on the battery. Because of this, each puff that is taken requires more energy from the battery that is necessary. If this happens frequently, it could lead to toxic health risks, since the cracks will eventually have a negative impact on the core of the lithium-ion. If you notice the casing on the outside of your device cracking, stop using it immediately!
Here are 3 charging tips to be aware of:
- Use the charging cables that came with your device. Some batteries have safety features to prevent short circuits and overcharging; however, some batteries do not. Most devices typically come with a charger and a USB cable. The charger for the device is also compatible with other common devices like cell phones. For this reason, if you misplace your USB charger, you may think it is smart to charge your vapor with any charger that fits into your vapor; however, this is not the case!
- Which brings us to this: It is important to only use a charger that has been approved by the manufacture.
- Finally, once you have obtained the proper charger, it is important not to overcharge your device!
To maintain a proper, and quality vape session, as we cannot stress this enough, please DO NOT overcharge your battery. It is not wise to charge your device overnight or for a long period of time. You can save money by maintaining your battery properly. You could also save yourself a trip to the local ER! As soon as your battery is finished charging, unplug it!
