Exposing Popular Vaping Myths
If you're a vaper, you probably find yourself frequently getting annoyed by all the ridiculous myths regarding vaping. It seems like there's always one person at a party who brings up popcorn lung or exploding devices. Having to constantly correct these misinformed people can get a bit tiring.
Fortunately, we've taken the time to both debunk and track down the origins of the most popular myths regarding vaping.
Vaping Myth #5: Vaping Companies Are Trying to Lure People Who Don’t Smoke
With the rising popularity of portable, discreet vaping devices as well as enticingly sweet vape juice flavors, more and more people are under the impression that the vaping industry is trying to appeal to minors and other people who don't smoke. However, this simply isn't true.
The industry began with the goal of helping people quit tobacco products for good. Vaping devices and e-liquids were designed to mimic the experience of smoking as closely as possible without giving users all the side effects that’re associated with cigarettes.
Needless to say, vaping took off among those who were smoking cigarettes. As vaping became a trend, it was only natural that non-smokers became intrigued as well. However, vaping companies never tried to market to non-smokers.
As for the rumor that e-liquid companies release candy-inspired flavors to appeal to minors, this just isn't the case. After all, adults love candy too!
Vaping Myth #4: E-Liquids Are Made Using Ingredients That Are Found In Antifreeze
This myth is especially laughable. The association between e-liquid and antifreeze comes from the fact that both products contain propylene glycol. This substance is what helps the vape juice turn into thick vapor that can be inhaled into the lungs.
The problem with this myth is that it fails to mention that many of the products that we consume daily also have high levels of propylene glycol. For example, most makeup and skincare products contain this ingredient. Additionally, soft drinks, snacks and other popular foods have propylene glycol in them.
Unless you're one of the very small number of people who have an allergy to this substance, propylene glycol is considered perfectly harmless to consume.
Vaping Myth #3: E-Liquids Are Bad Because They Contain Nicotine
There are many reasons why this myth is ridiculous. For one thing, you can choose from an enormous variety of nicotine strengths when you purchase a bottle of e-liquid. Almost every vape juice company offers e-liquids that have zero nicotine in them. Therefore, vapers can enjoy e-liquids without consuming any nicotine whatsoever.
The other problem with this myth is that nicotine is considered relatively harmless. Nicotine is not one of the many harmful chemicals found in tobacco products. In other words, nicotine by itself is considered safe to consume.
Vaping Myth #2: Vaping Devices Are Bad for The People Around You
We all know the dangers associated with secondhand cigarette smoke. The vapor that comes from e-liquids, however, is not smoke. Because it's water-based vapor, it evaporates almost as soon as it is exhaled. Therefore, it's not dangerous to be around someone who is vaping.
Sure, some people may find it annoying when someone is vaping next to them. Some people are put off by the thick clouds and the aroma of vape juice. However, secondhand e-liquid vapor is not going to harm someone's health.
Vaping Myth #1: Vaping is More Expensive Than Smoking Tobacco Cigarettes
The truth is that vaping is as expensive as you want it to be. Many vape enthusiasts find that vaping is a fun hobby. Therefore, they choose to splurge on fancy hardware products and expensive e-liquids.
However, vaping absolutely doesn't have to be as expensive as smoking tobacco cigarettes. Puff for puff, vaping is actually cheaper. If you find a vaping device that you like and an e-liquid company that makes high-quality yet affordable vape juices, you can easily vape as frequently as you smoked cigarettes and find yourself saving loads of money each month.
Now You Know
These five vaping myths just won't go away. However, now that you know the facts, you can debunk them whenever they come up in conversation.
