Can You Prime A Pod Cartridge Coil?

Once a vaper trades in their box mod setup for a conveniently portable, user-friendly pod system, they usually feel a great sense of relief.  With these types of setups, maintenance is far less time-consuming and there are far fewer settings to have to play around with before experiencing a satisfying vape.

However, just because your pod mod is more low-maintenance than what you’re used to doesn’t mean that you don’t still have to take great care in order to prevent it from giving you a bad vaping experience.  One of the most important steps that you can take with your pod-vaping experience is priming those pod cartridge coils.  Many vapers mistakenly believe that pod cartridge coils don’t need to be primed, only to wonder why their flavor tastes burnt and their hits feel weak.

What Does it Mean to Prime a Coil?

If you’ve never used a sub-ohm system before, you might be wondering what it means to prime a coil.  All vape coils have a wick inside of them.  As the coil gets hot, the wick needs to remain saturated with e-liquid so that it doesn’t burn.  Priming a coil is simply making sure that the wick is properly saturated so that it doesn’t burn your liquid and kill the coil’s functionality.

Differences Between Pod Cartridge Coils and Conventional Vape Coils

Conventional vape coils and pod cartridge coils are extremely different from each other.  The standard coils that you use with a box mod device are much larger and can be physically removed from the tank.  The biggest difference of all is that the wick is made from a fairly large, thick piece of cotton in order to absorb the proper amount of juice so that it can tolerate the high output levels of your device.

Meanwhile, a pod cartridge coil is incredibly small and usually built into the atomizer.  Its wick is skinny and short, and it’s made from small synthetic fibers as it doesn’t need to absorb nearly as much je-juice at a time.

Should You Prime Your Pod Cartridge Coil?

You should absolutely prime your pod cartridge coil if you want to enjoy a long-lasting cartridge, a good flavor and a non-harsh vaping experience.  Without priming your coil, you risk burning your nic salt vape juice.

One thing to keep in mind is that we’re only talking about refillable pod cartridges that come with open pod systems.  Pods that are pre-filled with juice don’t need to be primed as they’ve already been holding liquid long enough for the wick of the coil to be properly saturated.

How to Properly Prime Your Pod Cartridge Coil

  • Find the fill port on your pod cartridge and fill it with the proper amount of vape juice. Then, close the fill port.
  • Put your finger over the air holes on the bottom of the cartridge and gently inhale a couple of times. This sucking motion will help the vape juice absorb more into the wick.
  • Allow the pod cartridge to sit for about ten minutes before attaching it to the mod and vaping.

Prime Those Coils for a Flawless Salt Nic Vaping Experience!

It’s definitely important to prime your pod cartridge coil.  In fact, it’s just as important as priming the sub-ohm coils that you used to use.  By taking the time to prime your pod cartridge coils, you can bet on more consistent, satisfying and long-lasting vape sessions.
