Can Vaping Affect Your Sleeping Habits?
Have you ever vaped right before bedtime and noticed that it’s a little harder to get to sleep than normal? Or perhaps you might have awoken in the middle of the night, something that you normally don’t do? Some key changes to your vaping schedule may help to relieve some of those sleeping habit changes.
One of the major parts of vaping that could change your sleeping habits is the nicotine levels in your e-liquid. Nicotine itself can cause insomnia, though concentrations in the liquid aren’t normally high enough for this to occur, except in the most sensitive people. Like caffeine, nicotine is a stimulant that causes those who use it to spend more time in light sleep and less time in deep sleep. Furthermore, nicotine alone can cause sleep differences more strongly earlier in the night, which could explain why it’s harder to fall asleep in the first place.
There are numerous ways to counteract the effects of nicotine on sleep:
- The first choice could be to decrease the level of nicotine in the e-liquid you use during the vaping session right before bedtime. In doing so, this lowers the amount of circulating nicotine, therefore decreasing the effects on sleeping habits.
- Another possible choice is to simply forego that late night vape session. Some vapers recommend not vaping up to an hour and a half prior to sleep, swearing that this will stop insomnia from creeping up.
- If you’re a new vaper, it might not be the actual vaping that is changing your sleeping habits. It might, in fact, be your own habits changing that are changing how you sleep. Because you are trying out a new hobby, your body is receiving different signals than before.
If you vape at low or regular nicotine levels, it is far more likely that you won’t experience sleep habit disturbances. Usually, it is only those who vape at extremely high nicotine concentrations who will show effects, and even those effects will be mostly minimal. By simply changing your nicotine levels during your pre-sleep vaping session or by taking more time between vaping and sleep, any changes to your habits will diminish to nothing very quickly. Whether it’s that or excitement due to a new, fascinating hobby, your sleep will hopefully be back to normal in no time and you will be able to enjoy your vaping with absolutely no worries.
