Are Vapers Leaning Towards Having More PG or VG in their E-Liquid?

Are Vapers Leaning Towards Having More PG or VG in their E-Liquid?

When it comes to vaping, a minimal universal truth is that everything comes down to personal preference. However, there remains a small internal debate that springs up time and time again: Which is better? PG or VG-based e-juices? With the advent of new devices and tanks with better atomizers, more vapers seem to be switching to higher VG ratios. Though there may not be a way to clear this dispute completely, there are ways to see which side you may fall into.

Many who are new to vaping end up starting with juices that contain more PG (propylene glycol) than VG (vegetable glycerin), especially those transitioning from cigarettes. Since PG offers a stronger throat hit, it can be useful for those that are still trying to kick the habit. Though as time goes on, the need for that heavy throat hit might deplete. Just keep that in mind.

Flavor, of course, is a big contender for a deciding factor. Propylene glycol holds the best flavor, keeping it closer to what was originally intended since it doesn't have much of a taste on its own. Vegetable Glycerin on the other hand has a bit of a 'sweet' kick to it. If you are someone who prefers the taste of straight nicotine, high-VG juices might seem a little distracting. Though for juices on the sweeter side, it can be an added benefit.

When talking about PG/VG ratios, it is important to remember that not every unit and its tank and coils handles things the same way. Juices that are high in VG are thicker, and that can affect the wicking process. PG is thinner and has little problem soaking your wick. Both have their own problems that you have a chance of encountering: High VG can leave you with dry hits, and high PG can cause flooding.

If you want to keep your head in the clouds, then VG is the way to go. One of the main appeals that VG has is the thick, full clouds that it can pull off. High PG is much lighter, and the most you will get are more airy, wispy vapor that dissolves in your throat. It comes at a sacrifice of the throat hit, but it is one that long-term vapers don’t seem to mind.

So, while it is still true that everyone has their own preferences, high VG is on the rise for a reason. The main limitation that vapers had for quite a while was with the equipment, not the juice. Now that you can nab decent sub-ohm tanks and other capable devices on the low end, more people are making the switch or upgrading their e-juices, hardware and overall vaping style.
